Bristol Beer Week: 3rd – 9th October 2013
Don't tell anyone, but Bristol is getting pretty serious with beer. Some say, in Bristol you are never more than 7 yards from a craft beer bar. Others are far more sceptical (and correct). But nevertheless, there are some right good'uns popping up. Brewdog, The Crofters Rights, The Beer Emporium and Beerd to name a few, with others fashionably late to the party that are yet to open. Now Bristol has its own week dedicated to the stuff. *Punches air*
Combine the newer wave of oh so crafty beery bars with the many real ale pubs in the city then you have a perfect cross section of frothy goodness to merit a whole week of moist, hoppy adventures! Bristol is better prepared to host a week devoted to beer than Qatar is ready to host a world cup. In fact, Bristol is better equipped to host a World Cup too but we’ll let that go for now.
Of course, lovely beer is also a fantastic excuse for indulging in some food pairing, and there shall be plenty of just that with the very capable the restaurant Flinty Red paired up with the Wild Beer Company, with more to sign up.
There will also be specially brewed beers from local breweries Arbor, Dawkins, Wiper & True, Rocket Science and not forgetting the Bristol Beer Factory. Limited editions get me every time. I want them all. I bet there’s one made from the tears of Prince George mixed with Guava, or rain that’s trickled down the front of a Banksy and conditioned in whisky barrels for 44 days to infuse a sense of moral righteousness. Delicious.
Beats - (Beery Treats)
Bristol Beer Week relies on you and your funny looking mates to make it a success. But don't worry, you won't have to organise a raffle, or do a sponsored abseil – just buy some beery treats over on the crowd-funding site indiegogo.
There are Bristol Beer Week 2013 T-shirts available which are probably set to turn “vintage” sometime after Dec 31st at a guess. There are also special beery offerings available in conjunction with local breweries that are literally worth more than their price tag. It's like Groupon only with fewer B&B weekend breaks in the Quantocks. No brainer.
3rd – 9th October 2013, stick it in your diary. The first round is on me!* Now stop watching Breaking Bad and check out the website.
